The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord and delighteth in his way! Psalms 37:23 seemed to speak directly to and our beloved Reverend James Wilson, Jr. Because he was a good man who loved and respected our Lord and Savior, service, obedience and commitment dictated his attitude, behavior and concerns. A true servant, loyal friend, dependable husband, Pastor, Counselor, Shepherd are terms that adequately describe our man of God. Because he was sincere in desire to lead others to Christ, he spent many hours studying and memorizing tha Word. He wanted to "rightly divide the word of truth". He reproved, rebuked, corrected, encouraged and inspired in a spirit of love. He visited the sick, prayed many prayers that comforted and lifted spirits and tried to set a good example for those seeking a closer relationship with the Master. Those struggling and in trouble realized that they had a friend in our beloved.

Reverend James Wilson, Jr. was born October 14,1928 in Darlington County. He was the oldest child of the late Reverend James W. and Georgeanna Mumford Wilson, Sr. He was educated in the public schools of Darlington County.

As a child he was taught about the love of Jesus Christ. He accepted Jesus as his personal savior and joined Kay Branch Baptist Church. It was important to him to be saved. He served his church with distinction and was later called to preach the Gospel. He was a happy man when called into the ministry in the 1960's. He loved, respected and admired his father, the late Rev. James W. Wilson, Sr. who was also a Baptist Minister. He was pleased to be able to follow in his father's footsteps. During his forty plus years preaching the Gospel,he was blessed to pastor New Zion Baptist Church in Lake City,SC, Long Pine Baptist Church in Wadeboro,NC and One Baptist Church in Bishopville,SC. He was dedicated and committed until the end.

"Rev. J.J." as was affectionately known, was united in holy matrimony with Mrs. Rosa Martin Wilson in 1957. The couple loved and complimented each other. This union was blessed with one son, Patrick Lavon Wilson, their love child.

He worked hard to provide for his family. He was employed over the years on the farm, Sonoco Products Company,Peoples Bank and Darlington County Court House as a bailer.

"Rev. J.J." was easy going, humble and mild mannered. He enjoyed good singing, lively preaching and earnest praying. The"fervent prayer of the righteous"helped him through many difficult days. His favorite songs were" I Found the Lord,""My Ups and Downs" and "Be What You Are."

He served God by serving mankind. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge (Mt. Beulah), Sonoco Men's Club, Joint Stock #726, Vice Moderator of New Hope Union and Ole Timers Club.
