Funeral service for Cpl. Preston Lee Brown will be 12:00 Noon Saturday March 13,2010 at Greater St. Paul A.M.E. Church, 4810 Francis Marion Road, Florence, SC.
Burial will be in Florence Memorial Gardens Cemetery directed by Young & Young Funeral Home of Hartsville.
The family will received friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home 307 John Street, Florence.
Mr. Preston Lee Brown was born May 23, 1934 in Florence County. He was the loving son of the late Walter and Cicero Robinson Brown, Sr. On March 6, 2010, the angel of death sealed the lips and eyes of our beloved Preston Lee Brown.
Preston was educated in the Public Schools of Florence County and was a 1953 graduate of Wilson High School. After completing high school, he enlisted in the US. Army. He served with honor and distinction. He was honorably discharged.
Preston returned to night school at Wilson High School and learned the art of laving bricks. He joined the Florence Police Department where he served the people of Florence County with pride. He was a dedicated and respectful servant for 22 years. He was an asset to his community because he understood his calling to be his brother's keeper. After retirement, he continued to serve by setting and living by Godly standards.
Preston attended the SC Criminal Justice Academy and Florence Darlington Technical College. At an early age, he joined St. Paul AME Church where he served faithfully on the Usher Board, Trustee Board, Founder and President of the Male Chorus and Class Leader. He was also a member of the Pee Dee Coon Catchers Club and the Palmetto Law Enforcement Officers Association.
Preston was united in holy matrimony to the former Catherine O'Neal. This union was blessed with two loving and devoted daughters, Charleen and Katrina.
Those who shared the sorrows and joys with Preston Lee Brown and remain to cherish his memory are: his loyal and loving wife of 42 years, Catherine O'Neal Brown of the home; two daughters, Principal Charleen (LTC) Robinson of Columbus, Ga. and Dr. Katrina (Coach Charles) Bankins of Laurel, Md.; four grandchildren, Jonathan Robinson, Jerod Robinson, Aahley Bankins and William Bankins; one sister, Victoria (Eugene) Paige of Dillon, SC; one brother, Willie Brown of Florence, SC; two god-daughters, Chantel Thomas of Atlanta, Ga. and Audrey Johnson Wilson of Hoganville, Ga.; three sisters-in-law, Louise Brown, Callie (James) Streater and Katie Grice; three brothers-in-law, Lessie (Laura) O'Neal, Joseph O'Neal and Edward Wingate;many nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors and friends.
Loved ones awaiting Preston in heaven are: his parents, Walter and Cicero Robinson Brown,Sr.; and one son, Donnie McWhite.
