Alveree Lighty Bess was born on April 24, 1927 in Darlington County. She was the daughter of the late Gus and Ethel Lee Lighty. She received her education in the public schools in the area. She attended and graduated from Butler High School. Upon competing school she was employed with Dr. McMath for 40 years until retiring. Alveree was a member of St. John United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women.
Those left to cherish her loving memories are her three children, Darlene B. Small, Carolyn (Cornell) Murray and Louis Bess, Jr. all of Hartsville, SC; Five siblings, Louie (Fredericka) Lighty of Columbia, SC, Fred Lighty of Dovesville, SC, Bertha Wilkerson of McDonough, GA, Ella (Laverne) Wingate of Columbia, SC and Rudean Cain of Darlington, SC; Eight grandchildren, Marcus Murray, Cornell “C.J.” Murray, II, Jaimie Small, Ashely Murray, Julien Small, Nicholas “Nick” Bess, Bryant Abson, Christopher Lucky; One great grandchild, Madison Taylor Murray; a host of nieces, nephews and other close relatives and friends.
