Curely was born on June 1, 1949 in Darlington County. He was the dear son of the late Curley and Carrie Samuel Thomas, Sr. He received his education in the public schools in the are and graduated from Butler High School with the class of 1967. He then joined the United States Marine Corp and served in the Vietnam War until his honorable discharge. He was awarded the National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Vietnam Campaign Medal Vietnam Crews of Gallantry Palm as well. Upon returning home, he began work at Marque Boating Company for a breif time. In his leisure, he enjoyed working in the yard, talking with those in the community and touching the hearts of all of us that loved him dearly.

Thomas both of Hartsville, SC; Five sisters, Kathy Smalls of Charlotte, NC and Vera A. Thomas of Augusta, GA, Mary McMillian of Yonkers, NY, Valerie Blanding of Yonkers, NY and Katrina McMillian-Lambert of Bronx, NY;
Three brothers, Lee Ernest Thomas of Beaumont, TX, Calvin Thomas of Hartsville, SC and Tyrone McMillian of Stanford, CT;One aunt, Dorothy Thomas Douglas of Laurington, NY; One brother-in-law, four sister-in-laws;
A close friend Hayward Jackson; Six grandchildren, five great grandchildren;
