James Hunter was born on June 26, 1944 in Darlington County. He was the loving son of Press and Idella Graham Hunter. He received his education in the public schools in the area and attended Rosenwald High School. James was employed with Galey & Lord for 26 years and was recently an employee with Wal Mart for 18+ years as a greeter. He was a lifetime member of New Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church where he served on the usherboard.
Those left to cherish his memories are his loving wife, Earline Cosom Hunter of Society Hill, SC; Three children, James Maurice (Caledonia Tammie) Hunter, Darryl (Sonya) Hunter and Sharlecar (Kent) Brown; One God-Daughter, Alyesia James; Two sisters, Magnolia (Otis) Littles and Nettie Louise Gnatt; One brother, George Walter Hunter; Sister-in-laws, Tina Cosom, Shirley Ann Moses, Geneva Cosom, Hazel Cosom and Harriett Kennedy; Seven grandchildren; a host of other close relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, One son, Vernard Cosom; One grandchild, Jaylen Cannon; Six siblings, Lillian Brockington, Franklin Hunter, Robert “Bubba” Hunter, Preston Hunter, John Hunter and Jerome Hunter
