Ransom Alford Byrd was born on Thursday, October 12, 1936 in Oates, SC. He was the loving son of the late Van and Charlotte (Douglas) Byrd. He received his education at Butler High School, Hartsville, SC. Ransom died at the Morrell Nursing Home, Hartsville, SC. He is survived by his beloved wife, Bobbie R. Byrd, father of Ranzey, Rex, Allen (Patricia), Ransom Edgar (Joyce Byrd, former daughter-in-law) and step-sons Eric Peterson (Caregiver) and Anthony Peterson (Whitley). Siblings: Frances Byrd Macon (Alvin) Fort Washington, MD and Frederick Byrd (Eileen), Silver Springs, MD. Grandchildren: Latasha Hankins, Latoya Patterson, Quentin, Jewell, Javone and Joshua Byrd, Step-granddaughter: Lauren D. Peterson. Sisters-in-law: Loretta Ford, Mae (Mike) Robinson, Kathleen Campbell, Georgia Benjamin, Hartsville, SC, Melissa Peterson (Darlington, SC), and Rosa Roberts, Marietta, GA. Brothers-in-law: Steve (Annie) Peterson, Darlington, SC, Michael (Barbara) Peterson and Shelton (Syretta) Lawson, Hartsville, SC; and last surviving Aunt Margaret Douglas Brockington, Hartsville, SC.

Ransom was a very affectionate person who grew up in a home that loved and served the Lord. He was baptized at Mount Calvary Baptist Church as a child. He spent the majority of his career working at Area Car Dealerships where he established lifelong friends and customers. He also was an entrepreneur of oil and pesticides companies. Prior to that, he was
employed with Darlington Co. Deputy Sheriff’s Dept., Phillips 66, John Newsome Auto, and a Volunteer Fireman. He was last employed with Quality Auto Sales. 

Ransom was preceded in death by: Shirley Byrd (1st wife died after 48 years of marriage), siblings: Barbara J. Byrd, Patricia Byrd Lucky, Van Jr., Claude Byrd and niece Gail Byrd.
