Robert James was born on October 19, 1926 in Lee County. He was the son of the late Raleigh and Annie Bell Mack James. He received his education in the public schools in the area and later joined the United States Army. He served his country with pride and dedication until being honorably discharged. He was employed with the United States Postal Service for 20 years until retirement. He was married to the late Hazel James and to this union two children were born, Diane and Carlton. Robert was a member of Spring Green Baptist Church in Bronx, New York. Upon relocating back to South Carolina he reunited and begin to fellowship with his family church Mt. Pisgah Presbyterian Church and also served as head deacon.
Those left to cherish his memories are his children, Diane (Freddie) Jackson of Hartsville, SC, Carlton (Elder Coylette) James of Las Vegas, NV, Pamela Pinkett (William) Robinson, Jr. of Bronx, NY, and Barney (Mary) James; one daughter-in-law, Lovie L. Pinkett of Hartsville, SC; Two sisters, Carrie Lou Wilds of Hartsville, SC and LaGertha James of Florence, SC; A dear friend, Deloris Pinkett of Bronx, NY; Thirteen grandchildren, twenty-seven great grandchildren and fifteen great great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and other close relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raleigh and Annie Bell James; two sons Waynes Pinkett and David Pinkett; Four siblings, Lillian James Ford, Mattie Mitchell, Tony James and Thomas James.
