Mr. Rodger Jesse Newman, son of the late Jesse and Ruth Mariah Jowers Newman, entered into the world March 16, 1959 in Chesterfield County, South Carolina. Rodger is a 1979 graduate of McBee High School. He was a lifelong member of Mt. Elon United Methodist Church where he served in whatever capacity he was needed.
Rodger was briefly employed by the Jefferson Police Department. His greatest passion was serving on the Sandhill Volunteer Fire Department until his health would not allow him. Rodger had a zest for life in that wherever he went, he did not meet a stranger. His love for people had no boundaries. He loved tinkering and creating pallets for businesses and working within the pulpwood industry.
He is survived by his life-long companion and fiancé, Barbara Brown, and his son, Rodger Daquan Newman of the home; one special "son", Michael Spell, Jr. of Jefferson, South Carolina; his sister, Nora Morgan of Ruby, South Carolina; one sister-in-law, Annie Jowers of Jefferson, South Carolina; and one aunt Dorethea J. Blakeney of Pageland, South Carolina; and several nieces and nephews, great nieces, great nephews and a host of cousins who loved him dearly.
