Sylvester Cain

March 10, 1954 ~ September 21, 2019 (age 65)

 Sylvester, “Vaster” as he was affectionately known by his mother, siblings, other family members and friends, was the second child of nine children born to the Late Linsey and Martha Cain.  A brother, JC proceeded him in death.   Sylvester was educated in the public schools of Darlington County and graduated from Hartsville High School.  After high school, he entered and served our country in the United States Armed Forces, serving in the Army Air Bourne Division. 

After four years of service, he was honorably discharged and return to South Carolina, to be near his family and to further his education and career objectives.  He was united in holy matrimony in 1994 to Glenda Miller Cain. He graduated from Midland Technical College and following in the shoes of his late father and worked for a number of years as an apprenticed, then seasoned brick layer until his health decline. Sylvester like his father, loved fishing, cooking and playing the guitar. 

He leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Martha; his wife Glenda Miller Cain; four brothers, Linsey(Glenda) Jr of Camden, Leonard(Teresa) of Florence , Tommy and Fredrick of Hartsville, SC.  Three sisters, Marie, Shirley(Earnest)Blankney of Hartsville and Yvonne(Tony) McGaughy of Atlanta, GA.  Five children, Martha Towana (Tim)of Columbia,SC, Angela(Kissy), Ti’Shawbay (Laquanya)of Cayce SC, Erica(Crystal) of Spring Lake, NC and Sylvester, Jr. (UTika),of Charleston and a host of grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. Sylvester lived a very humbled life.  He loved his family and embraced life to the fullest and on June 26, 2019, he accepted the Lord as his personal savior and was baptized into the faith by his younger brother, Reverend Leonard Cain. It was his desire that his family show courage and faith during his last days of convalence.  He was a man of strength and resolve.  Never complained, never begged and desired the best for all who knew him well
